POSITAL Announces Upgrades to IXARC Incremental Rotary Encoders
November 19, 2024
Higher resolution opens possibilities in new application areas
POSITAL has enhanced its IXARC family of incremental magnetic encoders, increasing the maximum resolution to 32,768 pulses per revolution (PPR). This upgrade includes new phasing options, offering a choice of wider index (Z) pulses, making it easier to replicate the features of older encoders – an important feature for the Maintenance, Repair, and Operations (MRO) market.
This higher resolution is made possible by the introduction of TMR magnetic sensor technologies. Power consumption has also been reduced, another important consideration for MRO buyers.
Christian Fell, head of POSITAL operations in North America, notes: “Magnetic encoders have practical advantages over their optical counterparts. They are compact, rugged, and tolerant of damp and dirty environments. While optical encoders were the traditional go-to choice for high- resolution applications, our new IXARC magnetic encoders have significantly narrowed the performance gap, making them ideal for high-speed printers and other demanding applications.”
IXARC incremental magnetic encoders are programmable. Resolution (anywhere from 1 to 32,768 PPR), pulse direction (A before B or B before A), index pulse width, and output drivers (HTL or TTL) are all controlled by software parameters. Customers can order the configurations they need pre-set at the factory or can customize their encoders on-site with POSITAL’s convenient UBIFAST programing tool.
These encoders are available in many mechanical configurations. Customers can choose housing materials, mounting flanges (compatible with European, North American, and Asian standards), shaft configurations, connector types, and environmental protection levels (up to IP69K). For food and beverage applications, 316L stainless steel housings are available. They are rated for shock loads up to 300g and can be ordered with heavy-duty bearings (shaft loads up to 180N), making them a suitable for harsh environments like mining, off-road and offshore
With their extensive range of features and options, IXARC encoders are easy to integrate into motion control systems, both for new projects and as replacements for older equipment. POSITAL’s online Product Finder tool helps buyers select the right variant for any application.
About FRABA and POSITAL
POSITAL is a supplier of advanced industrial position sensors used in a wide variety of motion control and safety systems. The company is also an innovator in product design and manufacturing processes and a pioneer of Industry 4.0 (Industrial Internet of Things/IIoT), offering customers the benefits of built- to-order products combined with the price advantages of mass-production.
POSITAL is a member of the international FRABA group, whose history dates to 1918, when its predecessor, Franz Baumgartner elektrische Apparate GmbH, was established in Cologne, Germany to manufacture relays. Since then, the company has played a trendsetting role in the development of rotary encoders, inclinometers and other sensor products. POSITAL has a global reach with subsidiaries in Europe, North America and Asia along with a worldwide network of sales and distribution partners.
