The National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA) announced its NEMA MG 1 Motors and Generators Standard is now available for free. For nearly 90 years, this in-depth Standard for motors used in America has guided motor manufacturers, state and local codes, repair shops, contractors, and original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) to design, repair, and install reliable, efficient, and robust motor-driven systems.

In 2020, manufacturing experienced a dramatic shift in how people work, with nearly every company adopting some form of remote work. The policies designed to increase employee safety often resulted in less access to important resources, like NEMA MG 1 electric motor Standard. As a result, the NEMA Motor and Generator Section reviewed the situation and decided to offer the digital version of NEMA MG 1 Standard at no charge.

“We are excited to help our customers and other end-users by increasing accessibility of this Standard. We know how important it is for designers, distributors, repair shops, contractors, and OEMs to access dimensional and performance specifications when building systems,” said Eric McGinnis, Regal Beloit, Chair of the NEMA Motor and Generator Section Executive Committee. “By offering this at no cost, we enable users to build better systems.”

“Making NEMA MG 1 more broadly available is just the first step,” according to McGinnis. “Over the next several months, we will collaborate with our partners to post guides and other resources to help our customers work more effectively.”
