ABB: IEC Low Voltage Motors for Water and Wastewater

March 30, 2020

ABB offers a wide range of low voltage IEC motors, from classical induction motors that provide high efficiency levels to synchronous technology that exceeds conventional efficiency requirements. Meeting water specifications means that public and private utilities and OEM’s can confidently specify a motor for any pump, compressor or fan application that is used in the water and waste water sector.

ABB motors operate in a wide range of water and waste processes and applications including:

  •  –   pumping stations
  •  –   inflow pumps
  •  –   irrigation systems
  •  –   water and wastewater networks
  •  –   mixers, closing pumps
  •  –   transfer pumps
  •  –   water and wastewater treatment
  •  –   sludge pumps
  •  –   desalination processes
  •  –   compressors
  •  –   fans

The motors have many features that provide greater protection against the environmental conditions found in water and wastewater applications.

  •  –   Protection against the external conditions found in the industry
  •  –   Bearings locked at D-end to avoid axial play
  •  –   Bearings can be either greased for life or re-greasable, fitted with grease relief systems
  •  –   Fan and motor fits optimized for low noise levels
  •  –   Oversized terminal box eases installation
  •  –   IP55 protection as standard, IP56 as option
  •  –   Surface treatment according to corrosion class C3M, C4 and C5 as option
  •  –   IE3, IE4 and IE5 to support emission reduction
  •  –   Designed for frequency converter operation

Motors from 0.75 to 1000 kW
IEC frame size 80 to 450 in cast iron, 80 to 250 in aluminum
Up to five years warranty

Weidmüller’s u-control 2000: The Automation Controller

Weidmüller’s scalable engineering software, u-control 2000, adapts individually to your requirements. And, the u-control is powerful, compact and fully compatible with Weidmüller’s I/O system u-remote. This article looks at what makes u-control the heart of your automation.

Programmable logic controllers (PLCs) are one of the main components of any automated system. A typical control system has inputs, outputs, controllers (i.e., PLCs), and some type of human interaction with the system, a human machine interface (HMI), for example.

November 4, 2025 By Mathias Blake, Martin Hsu, Ivan Goldwasser, Harry Petty and Jared Huntington The exponential growth of AI workloads is increasing data centre power demands. Traditional 54 V in-rack power distribution, designed for kilowatt (KW)-scale racks, isn’t designed to support the megawatt (MW)-scale racks coming soon to modern AI factories.  NVIDIA is leading the transition to 800 VDC data… Read More…
