Looking forward to the new ABB Formula E season
November 27, 2018
Season 5 of the ABB FIA Formula E Championship begins in less than a month, with an exciting new race car as the centerpiece of the all-electric series.
The Gen2 car features significant upgrades in battery life and for the first time, drivers will be able to complete a full race distance without the need for a mid-race car swap, as before.
The pioneering series, of which ABB became title partner in January this year, was founded on the principles of energy efficiency and sustainability. For ABB, it represents an arena in which its own pioneering technological leadership can be showcased.
This season, ABB compact Terra DC fast chargers will be used in the Jaguar I-Pace eTrophy that supports ABB Formula E, while last year ABB outdoor routers were used to create a wireless closed-circuit TV network for the New York races. Further technical collaborations are expected.
For season 5, 11 teams and 22 drivers will contest the championship in city venues starting on December 15, through to the closing rounds in New York over the weekend of July 13-14.
Alejandro Agag, CEO and founder of Formula E, said: “We have so many new things coming for Season 5. The new cars look like the Batmobile – they are cars of the future. They have two levels of energy – normal level and the attack mode – with all these LEDs so fans can see when a car is on attack mode and when it’s on defensive mode. All these new things continue to make ABB Formula E at the front of what’s going on and paving the way for motorsport for the future.”
