Drives and Control Solutions

Motors, Control Solutions, Power Transmission and Advanced Motion Technology

In this issue of Industry Insights with Owen I had the privilege of asking Linda Caron of Parker Hannifin a few questions about the industry and how Parker Hannifin is addressing industry shifts and concerns.

In this issue of Industry Insights with Owen I had the opportunity to sit down with Warren Osak, founder and CEO of Electromate. Speaking with Warren it is very clear he is a straight shooter with an abundance of knowledge, and passion for robotics, mechatronics and the general motion and motion control industry. Warren has a HBSc in biochemistry from the University of Toronto that provided him an ability to understand the complex calculations required to work with motion control. And understand it he did, authoring a text book in 1996 titled Motion Control Made Simple.

In this first edition of the column I spoke with Nathalie Pilon, President of ABB in Canada. Nathalie is a true industry professional with over 20 years of experience as a nationally recognized business leader and was previously named one of Canada’s Top 100 Most Powerful Women by the Women’s Executive Network. As the Canadian President of ABB Nathalie has deep knowledge of the industry and she here grants some insight into her perspectives regarding the automation and control industry in Canada.

Advanced Sensing Solutions for Cost-Effective Machine Building

Omron IOLinkSensing technology has a major presence in manufacturing machinery. It provides the foundation for maintaining consistent quality and detecting any lapses in machine performance. If subtle changes in the physical properties of a machine can cause it to fail, then the sensors responsible for detecting those changes can save manufacturers lengthy downtime and repair costs.

In addition to helping cut maintenance costs, sensors also present an opportunity to make the machines more cost-efficient. Whether through their resistance to harsh chemicals or their ability to reduce the overall machine footprint, the right sensors can make a huge difference.
