DCS Proline Promass Q300 500 With Smart 4 Tube Technology Endress Hauser 1 400x275

For maximum accuracy when loading, unloading, and transporting hydrocarbons in the oil & gas industry

Worldwide, over 90 million barrels of crude oil, natural gas and refined hydrocarbons are produced, transported, stored, and sold to end customers every day. Any measuring inaccuracy results in enormous shortfalls for suppliers or buyers. This is not the case with Promass Q. Thanks to its revolutionary 4-tube technology and an extended measuring range for pipelines up to DN 250 (10"), operators of loading stations are just one example of those who enjoy its many benefits.

Promass Q is now also available for larger pipe sizes DN 150 to 250 (6 to 10’)

Promass Q, the high-tech Coriolis flowmeter from Endress+Hauser, is now also available for larger pipe sizes with maximum flow rates between 850 and 2400 t/h (6700 and 18 900 bph). Furthermore, the implementation of the revolutionary 4-tube technology opens up numerous promising applications in the oil and gas industry – for example, as a highly accurate duty meter for custody transfer and fiscal metering, or as a precision reference device (master meter) for on-site verification measurements.

Benefits

4-tube technology – one-of-a-kind, worldwide

A revolution in the flow market, 4-tube technology offers customers unbeatable advantages. Compared to Coriolis flowmeters with two measuring tubes, four tubes allow up to 25% higher flow rates. This speeds up all transactions in the oil and gas business and thus saves money by reducing, for example, standstill times for loading and unloading oil tankers, resulting in lower port charges. Another advantage is that unwanted pressure losses are much less significant with four measuring tubes.

Robust and compact

Promass Q sensors, which are available in stainless steel and in IP66/67, ensure reliable and low-maintenance long-term operation. Therefore, the sometimes-harsh environmental conditions in the offshore area with humid atmosphere and salty splash water do not pose a problem for smooth measurement operation. The compact design is unparalleled relative to the flow capacity that can be reached (max. 2400 t/h – 18 900 bph). It allows for installation even in the most confined spaces.

Best measuring performance in the industry

Numerous test measurements have proven Endress+Hauser Coriolis flow measuring technology to be the best method for viscous hydrocarbons (heavy oils, bitumen, etc.) or fluids with entrained gas. This is particularly true for Promass Q with line sizes DN 150 (6") to 250 (10"). Thanks to its special measuring tube geometry and the innovative 4-tube technology with two independent measuring tube pairs (“2 in 1”), both flow and density measurements can be carried out with unmatched performance.

Proline 300/500 transmitters – proven for years

The Proline 300/500 transmitters that can be combined with Promass Q sensors offer numerous innovations that have been proven for years and give customers genuine added value in their plants. These include WLAN (web server) for wireless operation and configuration on site, HistoROM for safe storage of configuration and device data, as well as Heartbeat Technology for diagnostics, device verification and process monitoring.

Thanks to its revolutionary 4-tube technology and an extended measuring range for pipelines up to DN 250 (10"), Proline Promass Q from Endress+Hauser opens up numerous promising applications in the oil and gas industry. Low pressure loss and outstanding measuring accuracy are just two examples of its many benefits. Watch this animations to learn how the 4-tube technology works.

For an overview of the Coriolis Flow Measuring Principle, watch this video

Born in 1792, the French mathematician and physicist Gustave Gaspard de Coriolis was the first to describe the force that history has named after him. This force is particularly noticeable in rotating systems. The experiments and simulations shown in this film illustrate what it's all about.

Coriolis flow measurement is the simultaneous measurement of mass flow, density, temperature and viscosity. The Coriolis measuring principle is used in a wide range of different branches of industry, such as the life sciences, chemicals, petrochemicals, oil and gas, food, and – no less importantly – in custody transfer applications.

DCS SEW MOVIC 1 400x275

When it comes to power transmission and motion control, SEW-EURODRIVE needs no formal introduction. Counted among the industry leaders in drive technology, SEW-EURODRIVE makes drive-based automation its business. SEW-EURODRIVE, founded in 1931, is a global company that specializes in gear motors, frequency inverters, drive systems, industrial gears, and control software. SEW-EURODRIVE products are distinguished by their modular components and customer-centric philosophy. Their modular components can be built in a multitude of configurations, durable gear housings, offer flexible mounting capabilities, and provide advanced electronics that ensure equipment continuously operates efficiently.

Drives & Control Solutions' sibling, Mechatronics Canada, had the opportunity to speak with Shane Carnegie, Electronics Product Manager at SEW-EURODRIVE Canada, to learn more about MOVI-C, a modular automation system that offers a full solution for automation tasks. MOVI-C has been continuously expanding its reach into the mechatronics space, offering an encompassing solution for machine builders and integrators. Below Shane walks us through some of MOVI-C’s unique features and real-world applications.

Can you explain what MOVI-C does?

MOVI-C is an all-in-one modular automation system. Building on the familiar SEW modular gear motors and previous generation inverters, we now have modular inverters, controllers and associated software which ties everything together. For example, you can have a gear box with an AC induction motor, a permanent magnet motor, or a servo motor based on your application requirements. Attached to that we can provide a motor controller which can be mounted in a panel or directly on or near the gear motor. The positioning or velocity control software can be pre-loaded into the motor controller at the factory and all that is required is to send the same standard process data words from your main PLC to the drive system to perform your desired motion. The software interface looks identical no matter what controller or underlying gear motor system is attached.

What are some of the major features that MOVI-C has to offer?
